Divine Mercy Novena - Day 1

The Divine Mercy Novena begins today. I pray this Novena each year and will carry the entire Novena on my blog. It's a favorite of mine. I pray the daily intentions followed by The Divine Mercy Chaplet.

First Day (Good Friday)
"Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me."

Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from It. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy for ever and ever. Amen.

  1. Thank you, this is very helpful. I would have missed it otherwise, until I realized (too late, the day before or so). :-)

  4. I love this novena, too, Mary, and the build-up to the feast day, at the end of it. One year, everyone was sick and we had to wait another whole year for all those graces:-( This year, I really need the graces so we're all going - even if we spread typhoid fever to all the other parishioners;-)

I hope you have a very happy Easter, Mary!

    God bless:-)

  6. Hi Sarah,
I miss so many novenas because I forget to start them in time :) Even worse, I'm so spacey I forget I'm in the middle of one sometimes! (Yeah, my family doesn't know what to do with me - my husband found crackers in the vegetable drawer of our fridge the other day. I'm known to accidentally place ice cream in the cupboard and peanut butter in the freezer too.)

  11. Hi Mary,
Joining you and the others in this novena. It is the only one I seem able to stick to. As I sat down to pray this first day of it, I was thinking about all the people who pray this novena, and my joining my prayer with theirs (there is strength in numbers!)~heaven is being stormed for all the souls brought to Jesus' Sacred Heart! I love the thought of this :)

  12. Mary, you know I only learned about the Divine Mercy about 2 years ago. A priest recommended it to me in the confessional as a way of praying for my "enemies." But I was always a bit skeptical even though I started saying it...and even though I pray it often. Today while hand sewing the sash on my Easter dress I have been listening to a set of YouTube videos about the Miracles of Divine Mercy. It was exactly what I needed. Oh, my! Now I understand! Thanks again for letting us know when to start the novena. Have a blessed Easter :-)

  14. I love this novena but don't always say the chaplet after it...should I or is it still valid without it?:)

  15. Hi Colleen,
I think you can do it without the chaplet too. I've done it both ways.

    Happy Easter!
