Fra Angelico's "Last Judgment"
After I posted the video of Fr. Stephen Scheier's judgment experience, a blogging friend (thank you, Philangelus) sent me a link to Gloria Polo's judgment before the Lord. The details in this particular NDE are phenomenal...I've never read anything quite like it. I don't believe anyone could make up a story like this and I am inclined to believe it's true.
Reverend Joseph Dwight has her full testimony on his blog. Scroll down the page a bit until you see:
The Testimony of Gloria Polo
Gloria Polo's story is truly remarkable and I've read a few different translations of it. You can find her interview with Radio Maria, which is a bit shorter, here.
I started with the interview with Radio Maria (found a few translations online) and now I am reading the longer testimony on Rev. Dwight's blog.
There are so many things that stood out for me that I don't know where to start. I will say this - it shows the power of prayer and the importance of placing God first in our lives.
Please take the time to read it. I truly think stories like these have the ability to change lives and are even helpful to those deep into their walk with Jesus. Every word that comes out of our mouth matters. The Lord took Gloria Polo through the Ten Commandments and showed her how she broke each one. It's a remarkable story.

Mass Destruction
We have at our disposal the means to spread the Gospel worldwide. With a touch of a keyboard
at that. Within seconds our words are accessible to millions across the globe. Perhaps millions
don't read them but the words are there, nonetheless. Often, instead of being used as a tool to
reach out to others in a meaningful Christian manner, the internet is used as a weapon of mass destruction, its effects more far reaching than an atomic bomb because the effect can be spiritual and eternal. I don't speak here of only the websites which are obvious in their sinfulness but also those sites which in a subtle and insidious manner attack the simple faith of Catholics around the world. Reinforced by intellectualism and an air of religious superiority masked as "theological knowledge" some sites go so far as to even question the validity of the Novus Ordo Mass. And some do it in under the guise of "helping" God. No doubt, some are even doing this with the best of intentions.
As if God is not capable of helping himself if he so chooses. Yes, he often chooses to work through
people but this is despite us not because of us. Our part is to cooperate with His grace. We are simply human vessels, with fallen natures to boot. Not a one of us truly knows the heart of God and his thoughts are not our thoughts. That he deigns to use us as vehicles to build the Kingdom of God is almost laughable, wouldn't you say? That He has given us the Holy Spirit as our Helper is in itself enough to drop us to our knees. The Eucharist? This is a gift so profound that even the greatest saints had difficulty finding words to express this Treasure given to the Church.
Truly, our blogs and websites are insignificant when you think of the power of God. I can only surmise that the love of God walks hand in hand with His divine sense of humor. It's good to keep things in perspective in regard to what we write. Yes, He CAN and DOES work through fragile human beings but we can easily become sidetracked by forgetting that the Holy Spirit does the inspiring and "off we go!" claiming his gift as something innate to ourselves. Even worse, we often mix our own human reasoning with the inspiration of the Spirit and make a fine mess of things.
Back to the Mass. With over 1 billion Catholics in the world, Mass is being celebrated around the clock. CEO's sit in pews beside blue collar workers. Senators rub shoulders with homeless people...you get my drift. We are one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
Some claim that that Novus Ordo Masses are invalid. One site I stumbled upon called the Holy Eucharist "circus bread". If you want to find the site, Google it. Don't ask me where it is... I got off
that site in a hurry. It is there, trust me. The Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ present in the Eucharist referred to as "circus bread". How many other Catholics come across sites like these? What
harm is caused by thoughtless and untruthful words like these? These sites are stumbling blocks to many
people.
Mass destruction instead of Mass instruction.
What's wrong with this picture? St. Thomas Aquinas would have jumped for joy if he had the opportunities to spread the glories of the Mass that we have at our fingertips.
The Mass. The glorious, ineffable mystery of the Catholic Mass. In an effort to mitigate some of the damage caused by divisions among Catholics concerning the Mass, the liturgy, and the validity of the Blessed Sacrament I share with you these beautiful quotes by souls far holier and far wiser than ourselves:
"Reverence, therefore, reverence this table, of which we are all communicants! Christ, slain for us, the sacrificial victim who is placed thereon!" St. John Chysostom (Catholic Answers)
"It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do without the Holy Mass." St.
Padre Pio
"It is the whole Community, the Body of Christ united with its Head, that celebrates. Liturgical services are not private functions but are celebrations of the Church which is the sacrament of unity, namely, the holy people united and organized under the authority of the bishops. Therefore, liturgical services pertain to the whole Body of the Church." CCC 1140
"How I hate this folly of not believing in the Eucharist, etc..! If the Gospel be true, if Jesus Christ be God, what difficulty is there?" Blaise Pascal
The fact and the main point of this post is (feel free to confirm this with the Pope):
Both the New Mass AND the Traditional Latin Mass are valid. One's personal preference does not change this fact. We are free to attend either one. Both are beautiful, not because the participants are perfect.... but because Christ is present.
May we humbly thank Him.

Sabbath Moments - Life Missions
Colleen at Thoughts on Grace hosts the weekly meme Sabbath Moments. These are the moments when we
"live in the present" and find God's beauty in our daily lives. To those who would like to join in, please visit Colleen's blog. Check out her website Catholic Prayer Life too!
Here in the northeast the weather has been very cool and rainy. I've been taking advantage of this weather by catching up on my spiritual reading. One of the books I am reading is Life Missions, Family healings
by Michael Brown of Spirit Daily fame. I highly recommend both this book and the website. The book is an inexpensive, easy read with a wealth of information to help one understand their particular mission (or missions) in life and speaks about the obstacles that may impede this mission. God created us for love and has given each one of us an "unique mission" that no one else on earth can complete. I loved Michael Brown's book! I have been interested in this subject for quite a long time and I am already on my 2nd reading of this book. I like to reflect on particular areas which strike me and highlight them to go back to later. The subject of life missions fascinates me so much that I may do a future post on this subject. Here is an article about the book Life Missions, Family Healings and another article about life missions and interior cleansing.
Speaking of life missions, coincidentally, the priests homily at Mass Wednesday was on this subject! He was a visiting priest, taking over for the Pastor who is in Rome right now. Isn't it funny how God throws what you are currently tackling spiritually right into your path? I just started attending this church recently for weekday Mass. I usually attend the noon Mass at my own parish because I couldn't find a morning Mass that fit in with my daughter's schedule - they all took place in the morning while I was getting her ready for school. It was only a few weeks ago that I found a Mass in the town next to me that starts 20 minutes after her bus leaves. I was thrilled! There's nothing like starting your day with the Eucharist! What I also love about this church is they pray the Regina Coeli or the Angelus (Regina Coeli from Easter until Pentecost) each day before Mass and they serve Communion under both Species which is less common these days. I put up the link because I found the document on this issue interesting and thought others may enjoy reading it also.
I don't think I've ever put so many links in a post! Have a great weekend!

Sabbath Moments - Extraordinary God
Sabbath Moments is a weekly meme hosted by Colleen at Thoughts on Grace. Sabbath Moments are those times when we live in the present moment and find the sacred in the ordinary. Many thanks to Colleen for hosting this meme! Here are some of those special moments:
Mass during the week - Nothing ordinary about this. This is an extraordinary grace and one I am very grateful for.I'm blessed that my parish has a noontime Mass. If there wasn't a noon Mass I'm not sure I'd be able to attend Mass during the week very often. I can't attend a morning Mass because I'm busy getting my daughter ready for school. There is something so special about weekday Mass. I usually go alone and am able to give my full attention to the Lord. Not so on the Sundays. Half the time I am distracted by my daughter sitting beside me. I'm sure those with children can relate! This week I was able to spend a lot of time with God, both at Mass and in prayer. I particularly enjoyed the Old Testament readings from the Book of Genesis. There is something so awe inspiring about meditating on the creation of the world!
Bible study - There's nothing like delving into the word of God! I've been going for a year and a half and we are currently studying the Holy Spirit, so I've been focusing in a special way on the work He does in us and through us.
Prayer - It leaves me awestruck that the Creator of the entire universe meets us in prayer. I'm not sure we'll ever really understand the immensity of this gift. I've had some incredible prayer moments this week and I am very thankful for this treasure. This is a gift that is given to all humans. To think that each of us has the ear of the Almighty. Mind boggling, isn't it?
Ordinary people... extraordinary God.

Magnifikid?
How to tell if your child is a magnifikid:
-Magnifikids look forward to Sunday Mass without having a Summer Sprinkle Doughnut dangled over their heads
-One bathroom visit suffices for these saints in the making
-When reminded of a Holy Day of Obligation they do not yell out "Again! But we already went to Church this week!"
-Mommy's purse is in the same condition after Mass as when she entered and gum is still in the
zippered section
- The Catholic Charities envelopes are left intact and do not need to be sent out with pictures of kittens and flowers all over the front
- They do not ask why the priest sounds like the adults on Peanuts (WANH WANH? WAH WAH WAH)
- They know that the children's missal Magnifikid does not make a good paper airplane
and last but not least
-They do not grin and shout "AMEN!" after the final blessing
