Sabbath Moments - Blog joy!

Sabbath Moments is a weekly meme hosted by Colleen at Thoughts on Grace. This meme reminds us to live in the joy of the Lord and focus on the present moment.

It's great to be blogging again after taking most of the summer off. Blogging (and reading faith-filled blogs) brings me great joy! It's also a stress reliever (lol). It's almost impossible to feel down when you are smiling from ear to ear over the posts you read. I read this post over at Imprisoned in my Bones and am still smiling over it. Anne's personality never fails to shine through in her writing!

The weather here is perfect! Autumn is my favorite season and it's almost here! The leaves are just beginning to change and the evenings have been cool and crisp. I can't wait to go apple picking. I'm hoping to take Michaela to a nearby farm after school sometime soon to pick some Cortlands and Macs. There's nothing better than the smell of  freshly picked apples!

School has started and I have been enjoying the free time this gives me to attend Mass during the week and to pray more often. Attending Mass without a child interrupting is nice for a change (lol). I feel closer to the Lord when I am not distracted though I realize that this is only a feeling and has no basis in truth. Since the Holy Trinity lives within us, then distractions don't affect this indwelling but simply affect the perception of it. Still, it's much easier when you can give your entire focus to the Lord.

Thank you all for the recent comments welcoming me back after my break! I am enjoying catching up on your blogs!

  2. We've been lucky this year with both the apple and the pear trees. Even the cherry tree planted last year gave us 25 cherries !!! Also plenty of blackcurrants.

Not so lucky though with four fig trees. One planted in the ground and three in large tubs. Last year I got 20 figs from one plant in a tub. This year nothing ... I've warned them they'll be cut down and put in the fire. That's what it says in the Bible. Or is it a vine tree ... our vine plants grow all over the place and cover the garage ... but no grapes ... ever!

    God bless.

  3. Anne,
I loved that post! It was funny, interesting, and full of personality. I enjoy reading blogs by "real people" with their individual quirks and unique traits. These are the things that make us human and lovable.

Thanks for the comment about the new look here. I don't know if it will stay this way but I figured I'd give someone else a shot at the ugliest blog award for a change ;) Now that I have some free time I can work on my blogs a bit!

  4. Victor,
No grapes are better than sour grapes I guess! I'm glad your trees are bearing fruit. If your fig trees don't start doing their job, perhaps you should read them the story of the fig tree Jesus withered. That should light a fire under their....ahhh...oh yeah, roots is the word I'm looking for.

  5. I'm looking forward to the change of season too. During my year in Central America, it was one of the things I missed about being back in the US! The temperature here is staying in the 80s rather than the 90s, and it's pretty cool today. Summer is definitely on its way out. I'm looking forward to autumn too. :-)

  6. Mary, this new look on your blog is sooo much easier for my old eyes to read! The type size is better and the lighter background is better. So glad you are back. I've missed your posts and visits.

Apple picking sounds like such fun. I like to get cider and let it ferment. Boy is that tasty! Now that your myasthenia gravis is cured I bet you have lots of fun with Michaela. God is so good.

  7. Evan,
I'm not unhappy to see summer go. It's humid here in the summer and I much prefer cool, crisp air. I don't think I would have enjoyed the weather in Central America at all!

  8. Barb,
I'm glad I could save your eyes some stress, my friend :) And yes, it's much easier playing with Michaela now and I can lift her up for hugs, too!

  9. Colleen,
You might have to wait a bit longer down there! Thanks for your comment on my blog's new look. I hope the retreat went well! I didn't forget to pray :)

Mary, good point and truth we (or I) need to keep in mind. Whatever the distraction, if we cling to Him ever more firmly in faith at that moment He seems so far away, He will increase our blessings by leaps and bounds.

Was a great day here in So ME too. Glorious time of year in New England. Glad to find your blog.

  11. Mary inspiring post. I too cannot wait for cooler weather, especially now that my a/c is not working too well in my car. Blessings to you dear one.

  12. Hi Robert,
Yes, I agee with you. I believe that we usually make more spiritual progress during the times when we do not feel His presence than during times of consolation though it doesn't feel that way. Doesn't mean I don't love when I CAN feel his presence though :) Everyone needs a hug now and then! And I really like those God-hugs when they're now rather than then ;)

  13. You too, JBR? My a/c seems to work best on the highway. When I am going slow or at a stop it's junk!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, JBR:)

  14. Absolutely, we couldn't survive without a "God hug" once in a while. :)
