Virtues

Our new computer is up and running and I'm breathing a sigh of relief. Did you know that I used to be able to do all my dishes while my old one booted up? It was a laptop and had no memory available. A great virtue builder, certainly, but how much patience does one need to build up? Besides, we have kids to take care of that virtue.

Speaking of virtues, I was thinking of how, God, in his goodness, put so many natural cures for vice upon this earth. Think about it.

What's the built in cure for vanity? Aging of course! It's the great equalizer and no one is exempt. And God is an equal opportunity employer - since wrinkles look good on men, simply take away the hair on their heads and make it sprout out of the ears instead. And perhaps their noses if they still aren't getting it.

Give the impatient a few kids and toss them in a voting line. They'll have no choice but to be patient.

Spiritual pride? No problem! Put them on blogger (lol).

Okay. I'm kidding around. But only a bit.

Speaking of virtue, I'd like to thank all my blogging friends who practiced charity by not mentioning that the background on my blog is electric pink and not the "lovely mellow rose" which I assumed was showing up on everyone's computer (since that's what showed up on my old one). My first thought when I brought up Beautiful Gate on my new computer was - YIKES! My second thought was - People are kind :)

I guess it's time to change the color. I'll have to wait until the pack of wild animals (oops! I mean kids! So sorry!) are gone.

The best cure for impatience? Four kids, three hamsters, one dog - all in one room. Trust me on this one.

  1. Cute post! Sounds like you're babysitting- welcome to my world. I like the pink, it doesn't look like neon to me, maybe you need to adjust the color on your computer?

  2. Yep! I'm babysitting and my daughter has a friend over :) Oh! You mean you can adjust the color on these things?! Now, why didn't Randy let me in on that small but important bit of information? Then again, he thinks it's a kick that anyone as computer challenged as I am even has a blog so he probably figured it didn't matter since I wouldn't be able to adjust it anyway ;)

  3. Mary you are so good with metaphors and they do strike home and makes one think.

I think your blog looks fine, always does but it is the content that I like.....:-) Hugs

  4. Hi Bernie :) Thank you! I think I'll lighten it a bit though just in case some people don't like neon (lol). I don't know how to adjust the colors on my computer but I DO know how to do it on Blogger. It's only the sides that I'm worried about. Why I would assume that my blog looked the same on all computers I have no clue!

  5. I like the color, I think it's pretty :-) Never looked twice. So true about God's little ways of helping us with vices!

  6. Thank you, Maria :) I was only half-joking about the virtue thing. God really does give an abundance of natural cures for vice on this earth. And we have many opportunities every single day to practice virtues. Especially in these times!

  7. Is it awful of me to wish God would stop kicking my vanity pants to the curb now that I'm 41?!? ;)

I figured it was pink 'cos you like pink.

  9. Sarah,
Nah! It's not awful...it's human ;) I'm not especially fond of pink, actually. Soft pinks I can deal with, bright pinks give me a headache!

  11. Hi Mary,

Your blog doesn't look like neon pink at all on my computer - it's a dark lavender/pink - for an art lover I am amazingly color challenged when it comes to naming them - and the page where your posts show up is a soft lavender. It's very easy to read and doesn't make my eyes vibrate or make me nauseated like some colors do. There is a way to make sure your monitor shows the correct colors - it's in the control panel.

My blog is NOT supposed to look orange but on my brother's monitor it does. Blech! It makes me wonder how many other people are subjected to that awful shade. It's supposed to be a mix of maroon with gray boxes in the side bar and white where the posts show up. It would be awful if we all had to post what our colors are supposed to be, but in this digital age, it's something to think about.

    Loved this post.

  12. I'm glad it's easy for you to read now, Barb! Lavender, huh? Lol!
    The good news is:
Your blog does not show up orange on my new computer. You can breathe a sigh of relief, my friend :) And it's easy to read, too!

  13. Too funny.
    Thanks for the laugh Mary.
Don't worry...the pink is not as bad as it seems to you...it's rather "ethereal" actually.
And more toward the lavenders and mauves than "electric" ::SMILE::
