Praying for a Cardinal

If you'd like to adopt a cardinal to pray for as the College of Cardinals meets to elect a new pope in the coming weeks you can do so here.  I will be offering prayers for His Eminence Philippe Cardinal Barbarin , Archbishop of Lyon, France. A big "thank you" to Karinann and Nancy for letting me know about this opportunity to offer extra prayers and sacrifices for a specific cardinal along with my prayers for the Conclave.

  1. Thanks for this, Mary:-)

I registered and who should I get but the bookies' favourite Cardinal Peter Turkson! I'm off now to go and place a bet...

No, seriously - I know the media loves speculation but I feel a real obligation to pray hard for him, now.

    God bless, Mary:-)

  2. Hi Mary,

I'm praying for Juan Sandoval IƱiguez.

Isn't the Internet a wonderful means for connecting us together in prayer? Without it, this prayer network could never have been put together so quickly. May the prayers help the cardinals listen to the Holy Spirit and choose the most appropriate man to be our next pope.

    God bless!

  3. Mary, I don't understand.

If I adopt a Cardinal, will they send him to me and I'll have to feed him and look after him for life? I don't think we have a spare room in our house.

I don't mind praying for all the Cardinals to make the right choice of Pope, guided by the Holy Spirit. But to have one or more living with me is a step too far. I'll check out your website link and see how it goes.

    God bless.

  4. Mary, I just clicked your link.

I have adopted Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke from the USA. Born 30 June 1948. Cardinal since 20 November 2010. He is the Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature. (Don't know what this means). He looks very young.

    I shall pray for him.

    God bless.

  6. Hi Vicky,
I apologize for the delay in responding - it's winter vacation for the schools here so I haven't been able to get on the computer much.
I was wondering who'd get Cardinal Turkson :) I'll be surprised if he becomes our next pope but who knows. At least they are all getting prayer that they may choose well.

God bless you too, Vicky :)

  7. Hi Sue,
It is great! I wouldn't have known about adopting a cardinal if it wasn't for the internet. I'm glad we can do this too :)

    God bless!

  8. Hi Victor,
Of course you have to feed him! What did you expect?

Lol! Keep him away from the whiskey until after the Conclave though!

Yours is from America. You can probably sneak watered down beer into his glass - we seem to be known for that :)

    God bless!

  10. I am doing this too! My cardinal is from Dakar, Senegal of Western Africa. I printed out his information and brought it to my class asking them to pray for Cardinal Theodore-Adrien Sarr. Not that he becomes pope but that he listens to God when the decision making is happening.
