In honor of the Sacred Heart

I owe my conversion to the most merciful Heart of Jesus. Here is my conversion story in verse:

The Weeping Rose
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hiding behind my fig leaf

Cowering in the shame of Eve

I, too, consumed fruit forbidden

Sweet to the lips; bitter to the soul

And mourned outside Eden's gates

An earthen vessel, Adam's seed

Lost in the dust of time

A rose wilted for lack of the Son

"Where are you?", echoed in my soul

At the faintest, "here i am"

A broken arrow, a crooked bow

Stood before the Mercy Seat

Unbathed, covered with grime

Unrecognizable to all but You

Your eyes pierced through the filth

And saw the swan in the ugly duckling

You tucked my heart into your side

Two hearts beat as one

And in this Sacred Chamber

A weeping rose unfurled her first petal
You can find my written conversion story here - Heart of Jesus Infinite in Mercy - or perhaps I should say that this is where it all began, because conversion is a lifelong process. Many of you have already read this but I have never quite ceased being amazed at the tremendous gift of mercy I have received and I am putting up the link in honor of Jesus' Sacred and Merciful Heart. The gift of mercy He gave me changed me forever and I will always be grateful for his love and kindness.

Jesus, my heart is forever yours.

  1. Mary,
This is beautiful. God's patience and mercy is endless and makes amazing transformations when we cooperate with His grace. Thanks for the link to your conversion story; I will take some time to read it later today.
Thanks for sharing this poetic version with us.

  2. Karin,
Thanks for commenting. He had to practically hit me over the head with a bat but I finally got it :) God bless!

  3. Beautiful Mary, just beautiful! So glad that His Heart drew you home!

  4. Thank you, Anne. I know that you have a great devotion to the Sacred Heart, also. We have wanted to do an Enthronement here at our house but have not yet done so yet. Hopefully soon!

  5. Mary, words are hard to express how beautiful this is and how much it touched my heart. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us! Thank You for the Love you give us and stir in our own hearts! Would that all souls could open themselves to know Your Love and Mercy!

  6. Kathryn,
God has been so good to us, hasn't He? :)

  7. Mary, this is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us!

  8. I love poetry, Mary. I wish I was able to write poems but I don't seem to have the skill. Not like you. This is beautiful!

  11. Oh how beautiful & perfectly expressed!
love how the poem ends with the image of a rose.
it's amazing how we just need to wish to be found and there God will find us.
i admire your honesty. it is inspiring.

  12. Hi JBR,
You are so sweet :) May our Lord bless you, too!

  13. Hi Jade,
I'm glad you enjoyed the poem :)

  14. Mary, beautiful conversion story. I just read both parts and the rest of June. Glory and Praise to God for the special graces you have been given. Truly you are his sweet daughter sharing his sweetness and love with others.

  15. Hi Colleen,
As you can probably imagine I was floored by what happened. I believed in miracles but nothing like this had ever, ever, happened to me before. I thought things like this just happened to other people. Back then I didn't understand the extent of God's mercy and love for his people. God is truly pure love.
