The Tortoise and the Hair

I attempted to get this post up yesterday but, unfortunately, the Tortoise is on vacation with me. The Tortoise is our ancient laptop which works so slowly that this post that was supposed to go up yesterday decided to wait until today. He's a stubborn little critter and needs a lot of coaxing. I threatened to toss him in the trash so he decided to cooperate with me today. I updated the post a bit and instead of wishing everyone a "Happy Independence Day" yesterday:

I  hope everyone HAD a wonderful July 4th! We are on vacation at the seashore for the next two weeks and you wouldn't believe how packed the beach was today (errrr, yesterday, that is) - they predicted a crowd of 150,000 to 200,000 on the local beaches today (yesterday) and I think the forecasters were right on target. We were packed like sardines! Crowded beaches aren't my favorite thing but Michaela wanted to go to the main beach today, so we agreed. Yesterday (the day before, actually) we went to a much more secluded spot. Randy fished, the kids played, and I read on the beach. I did dip my feet in the water but they instantly went numb (those who live in the Northeast know what I mean) so I hobbled back to my chair and let the kids turn into ice cubes along with my husband. Charity, in my case, does not extend to walking out of the ocean with a ice cube stuck to your nose. (The Lord certainly agrees with me on this one - He knows all about walking ON TOP of the water rather than in it. Peter on the other hand....)

Oh yes ...the hair. I forgot about the hair. Likely it will have all fallen out by the end of the summer so perhaps I need not worry about it after all and can begin anew :)

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

  1. As a nor-easter myself, I do understand (and appreciate) cold beaches. But I don't mind freezing - there is nothing I love better than swimming in the ocean! I just usually find myself doing it alone :-(

You know, you're probably right about Jesus. I'm sure He just didn't feel like getting cold and wet. He probably figured He had enough to deal with!

  2. Hi Maria,
The water was a bit warmer today, thankfully :)

  3. Have a great break, Mary! Enjoy your time away with your family. I am a bit like you: The water has to be really warm before I am tempted to get wet. I'd much rather read a book and just observe the action.

  4. Colleen,
I've been down to Florida a couple of times during the summer and I know what you mean! The water is like bath water and easy to walk into down there though! I have to "work" my way into the water up here very slowly :)

  5. The last time I went to the seaside a passing seagull pooped on my friend's head. She asked me for paper tissues and I said:

"It's too late. The seagull has flown miles away by now!"

    Have a grand holiday.

    God bless.

  6. Thank you, Sue! We are having a great time so far. I bring a book to the beach each day and I love the sea breezes and just gazing at the ocean. The water has warmed up a bit so I've been able to play in the water with my daughter a bit more - she could stay in there for hours if we'd let her!

  7. Vicky,
Funny! We have to watch out for the seagulls around here, too :)

  9. Hi Mary, I hope you're enjoying your vacation! When you're used to a high speed internet the slower versions all pale in comparison! I must say, I love sitting on the beach or pool side, in a shaded spot, reading a book. I was doing the same thing yesterday at our local pool reading about The Apparitions of the Blessed Mother at Medjugorje. So peaceful in the shade with a slight breeze. I'm going back today too!
May God richly bless you on your family vacation!

  10. Hi Noreen! Coincidentally, I was reading a book on Medjugorje here at the beach, too. I just finished it and am starting a new book. I am a total bookworm :) God bless you and yours too!
