Sabbath Moments - Hurray!

Sabbath Moments is a weekly meme hosted by Colleen at Thoughts on Grace. These are the moments we "let go and let God" and live in the present moment.

School is now in session.

Yippee! Woohoo! Hurray! Grand central station is now closed until the afternoon!

Excited? Who, me?

Why would the thought of 5 or 6 kids (not including my own) raiding my refrigerator, slamming doors, letting loose hamsters, chasing the dog and trashing my small condo excite me?

Gee, I'm not sure. Maybe the thought of holding on to the few brain cells I have left has something to do with it.

Probably a few moms will not think this is an appropriate Sabbath Moment.

I send these moms an open invitation to visit my small condo during the summer. But, don't forget to -

BYOE...

Bring your own earplugs.

Beer is a plus too.

  2. Karin,
Well, I figured...why lie? This place is CRAZY during the summer. Randy is always wondering how our condo became the neighborhood gathering place. As a teacher I'm sure you can relate to how loud kids can get! Plus, my elderly dog is LOVING it :)

  3. How long are school holidays? Here it's from beginning July to 5 September (next Monday).

    God bless.

  4. This was a good laugh, Mary. I was wondering how "Hurray" was a title for Sabbath Moments :) But, I totally get this. There have been plenty of moments in this condo that would not be described as Sabbath Moments, although I love the young sources of my loud, and unpredictable summer days. Yes, and a cold beer is sometimes great way to celebrate the many joys and challenges. God Bless You!

  5. Victor,
The kids got out of school the third week of June and started back August 30th. They used to start in September, after Labor Day) but it was moved back a week for some reason that I cannot figure out. It doesn't make sense to send them to school for three days and then give them them a 4 day weekend because of the holiday.

  6. Colleen,
To be honest, I'm torn. Yesterday we took my daughter to an amusement park and had a great time. I miss her when she is in school but I also get a chance to catch up on things I just cannot do in the summer with her and her friends running around. Plus, the hamsters live in their cages now and not my walls!
Truth is: I hate beer...it makes me gag :) My husband thinks a cold beer is great on a hot summer day though! And as embarrassing as it is to admit I get giggly after even one glass of wine. Lol! Needless to say, I rarely drink because of this!

  7. Colleen,
Yes...peace :) I need breaks from all the noise at times! Today only two kids are running around here because it's a holiday weekend but usually it's busier than that. What's difficult is not having our own backyard. We have a park, clubhouse, pool, and walking trails but it's not like the kids can just run around alone outside whenever they want. They have to wait for an adult. We are going to start looking at houses in the Spring and I'm looking forward to it.

  8. Mary, enjoy those precious moments and let them give you new energy and grace for when the school bus arrives at the end of the day!

  9. Kids are wonderful, but I can see where a break from all that noisy energy is most necessary. Real Sabbath Moments for the busy mom.

  10. I feel for you, Mary - a backyard makes such a difference. I sent ours out to play in the sandpit, today, and the peace was just blissful! I think it can also be easier to look after 8 of your own children than one of someone else's. Don't ask me why - it's not as though my children are perfect angels! But, still, it always seems to be too quiet when they're not around:)
