Suffering in the Garden

When I went to mass this morning the priest gave a homily that hit home with me. It was about keeping our eyes on the Lord. Everything looks different through the eyes of faith. Even suffering. On the days that I feel a lot of pain I have noticed that when I grumble and complain the pain is much harder to bear but if I unite it with His suffering and then peacefully accept it the burden is lighter. My illness (fibromyalgia , polymyalgia) has definitely brought me closer to the Lord and it has deepened my prayer life. I love meditating on the sorrowful mysteries and I sit in the Garden of Gethsemane with Jesus, lean my head against His and just suffer with Him.

Utterly Thine , my Lord and my God.

  1. The Agony in the Garden is a mystery I love to meditate on. I have felt as though I have been united there with Jesus on many occasions. I can just picture that sweet angel touching my shoulder to comfort me. Great reflection!

  3. When my son passed away I used to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries now I am back to saying the Rosary and praying the mysteries on their proper days....love my Rosary.

I'm sorry to hear of your illnees, I offer my arthritis pain up as well and when it gets really bad I ask God "to hide me in his wounds" and he always brings me comfort.

    Have a Sacred Sunday.......:-) Hugs

  4. Bernie,
I was greatly saddened when I read about the loss of your son on my other blog. It is the worst suffering a mother can go through and I am sorry for your loss. He was very young, you must have been brokenhearted. You are in my daily prayers, Bernie, the Lord has already written your name on my heart. God bless you.
