Sabbath Moments - In Stock

Sabbath Moments is a weekly meme hosted by Colleen at Thoughts on Grace. These are the moments when we "let go and let God" and live in the present moment.

We have a used bookstore in town that contains a treasure trove of spiritual classics. I can often be found there digging through the shelves searching for books to read. They had so many books in stock this time that I had an easy time browsing for good ones. This week I picked up three books by C. S. Lewis, a book by Mother Teresa, and a book about St. Padre Pio for just over a dollar a piece. What a bargain! The one by Mother Teresa is called Words to Love by...

In one section of the book she speaks about families. Here are a few words from her:

Love begins at home.
If we do not love one another who we see 24 hours
how can we love those we see only once?
We show love by thoughtfulness
                      by kindness
                      by sharing joy
                      by sharing a smile...
Through the little things.

A little child has no difficulty in loving,
has no obstacles to love.
And that is why Jesus said, "Unless you
become like little children...."

Mother Teresa's words are always simple and filled with wisdom. I have read some of the passages
in this book over and over again. Not because they are difficult to understand, but because they are so
filled with truth and beauty it just makes a person want to savor them and reflect on them more deeply.

I'll end this post with a picture Randy took while we were visiting an amusement park this week.

I am quite sure this is NOT what Mother Teresa meant by love. But...hey...you have to discipline your kids somehow and I'm against spanking  :-)

  3. That's such a cute picture! I have a couple of Mother Teresa's books and find her wisdom inspiring. How lucky you are to have a used book store that gets Catholic books. Here in the heart of the Bible belt they are hard to come by.

  5. Hi Barb,
We had a great time at the amusement park. Michaela was finally tall enough to ride her 1st Rollercoaster (you have to be 48 inches). She loved it :)

I was thrilled when the bookstore opened. It has over 100,000 books and the prices are great! I get a lot of books there for Michaela too. We are both bookworms and it is simply too expensive to pay full price all the time. We have a decent library in town too but there's a bigger selection at the bookstore.

  6. LOL With that sweet little "power" face, Michaela looks strong enough to bust right out of that "moment of discipline", hee hee.

This thought you've shared about Mother's writing...that if we don't love those whom we are with 24 hrs a day, how can we love someone we've met only once? This, I will reflect on for quite some time...24 hours day...24 opportunities to love; once an hour...and yet, how many more within that one hour? Amazing.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful Sabbath Moments and YAY for the great book deals!

  8. Those word verifications are always strange! Plus, Google doesn't know how to spell! Lol! Randy gets cool word verifications like "fromtheiam" and "bible" - he ribs me about it because I get "puddlepoo" and stuff like that :)
