Sabbath Moments - Life Missions

Colleen at Thoughts on Grace hosts the weekly meme Sabbath Moments. These are the moments when we
"live in the present" and find God's beauty in our daily lives. To those who would like to join in, please visit Colleen's blog. Check out her website Catholic Prayer Life too!

Here in the northeast the weather has been very cool and rainy. I've been taking advantage of this weather by catching up on my spiritual reading. One of the books I am reading is Life Missions, Family healings
by Michael Brown of Spirit Daily fame. I highly recommend both this book and the website. The book is an inexpensive, easy read with a wealth of information to help one understand their particular mission (or missions) in life and speaks about the obstacles that may impede this mission. God created us for love and has given each one of us an "unique mission" that no one else on earth can complete. I loved Michael Brown's book!  I have been interested in this subject for quite a long time and I am already on my 2nd reading of this book. I like to reflect on particular areas which strike me and highlight them to go back to later. The subject of life missions fascinates me so much that I may do a future post on this subject. Here is an article about the book Life Missions, Family Healings  and another article about life missions and interior cleansing.

Speaking of life missions, coincidentally, the priests homily at Mass Wednesday was on this subject! He was a visiting priest, taking over for the Pastor who is in Rome right now. Isn't it funny how God throws what you are currently tackling spiritually right into your path? I just started attending this church recently for weekday Mass. I usually attend the noon Mass at my own parish because I couldn't find a morning Mass that fit in with my daughter's schedule - they all took place in the morning while I was getting her ready for school. It was only a few weeks ago that I found a Mass in the town next to me that starts 20 minutes after her bus leaves. I was thrilled! There's nothing like starting your day with the Eucharist! What I also love about this church is they pray the Regina Coeli or the Angelus (Regina Coeli from Easter until Pentecost) each day before Mass and they serve Communion under both Species which is less common these days. I put up the link because I found the document on this issue interesting and thought others may enjoy reading it also.

I don't think I've ever put so many links in a post! Have a great weekend!

  3. You're so right about the life mission. I've also found that as our circumstances change, the job God gives us to do changes also.

  4. I hope reading that book will help you discover your own life mission. Maybe I should read it some time...

Getting the Eucharist is certainly one of the best ways to begin your day! Glad to hear you've been able to locate a daily mass that fits your schedule. What better Sabbath moment is there than receiving the Eucharist?

  5. Barb,
That would make sense! According to the book some people have a number of missions to complete while others (such as a baby who dies very young) may have a very simple one but a very important one nonetheless and we'll understand in heaven. Those who have had "near death" experiences often speak about these "missions" that must be fulfilled. It's very interesting stuff. One of yours is obviously offering your pain for the intentions God asked of you. Writing too, most likely (among others). For some folks it's not as easy to discern as it is for others. I'm guessing that most of us have multiple tasks to complete along with and other than our staion in life.

  6. Thanks for sharing this book, Mary. I often visit Spirit Daily so I have seen this book on there but haven't read it. I would agree that many of us have several missions. I often wonder about God's mission for me had I not left Him in the ways that I did, but I stand in awe and wonder at how He uses everything even our sins to give us new or at least revised missions.
    God bless!

  7. I wonder about the same thing, Karin. What if I hadn't left the Church for years? But, as you say, He uses everything and if we love and trust Him we will fulfill our missions. Plus, He foresaw everything we would and will ever do because time is an earthly thing so maybe our missions were planned into that :) Like your work with Rachel's Vineyard for example, your teaching gift, your blog, your prayer gifts - who knows how all this works into or is part of your mission in life. I guess that it's through prayer to the Holy Spirit that this area "opens up" for us and we can depend on His guidance and pray for discernment. God bless you, too :)

  8. Evan,
The Eucharist is definitely the best Sabbath Moment of all! Since going to Mass in the morning I've really noticed that it helps my day start off right :)

  12. Yes, and I am thankful that He does make things come out right because I sure made a mess of things for a little (errrr, not so little) while :)
Colleen, I loved the video of your grandson! He's a cutie pie!

  13. Thanks for all the links, Mary. I'm going to do some hopping about!

I've been reading some of your older posts and getting to know you a little better. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction of your reversion story. God is good!

  14. You're welcome, Sue :) I read your post about "unschooling" and am looking forward to your posts on this. My daughter is not homeschooled but I am interested in this topic.

Yes, God is good! I would probably still be in the same rough shape if it were not for my experience with Jesus' Divine Mercy!

  15. Great post! I'm wondering if you would recommend the book "Life Missions" for my teens. I incorporate a book called "Lifeworks" into their freshman or sophomore year to help them learn how to discern their calling in life and it sounds as though this book you mention might coincide nicely with our lessons. Your thoughts?

  16. Judy,
I probably wouldn't recommend it to teens. The reason being - it speaks less about vocations and discerning what station a person is called to and more about missions that God gives us to do along with our duties in life. It also speaks a lot about family healing, including intergenerational, and reminds me a bit of Father DeGrandis book on this subject.

You'd probably like it, though :)
